James Alexander Fowler (1946-2021) was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina. As a child, under the influence of his father and maternal grandmother, he developed an interest in wildflowers. His passion for all things botanical led him to explore wild orchids, carnivorous plants and other wildflowers throughout the United States and Canada. He recorded his adventures in a blog, jfowlerphotography.com. In 2021, the US Postal Service issued 10 stamps featuring his photographs of wild orchids.
