"Voices of Cades Cove" Mini-Series, Parts 1-9, tell the story of the culture and human history of Cades Cove, what was once a thriving farming community sheltered in a cove surrounded by mountain peaks, in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Guest speakers are many, some actually lived there and some are direct descendants of former residents. Some are representatives of National Park Service and more. "Voices" begins with the formation of the Appalachian mountains and their geology, Cherokee pathways, the first permanent white settlers, discusses churches - schools - cabins and houses - mills and stills, and details daily family life through the family ancestries, histories, memories and scrapbooks. It also discusses the human toll of events on Cove people, such as the Civil War, World War I, the Flu Epidemic of 1918, the formation of a national park, the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Great Depression; includes the nearby communities of Chestnut Flats - the Whiteoak Sink - Hazel Creek, herding livestock up on the Balds, and more. We follow the 11-mile 1-way Cades Cove Loop Road in the telling of this huge story, because that is how visitors see the Cove today. Please see individual descriptions on this website. "The Whitetails of Cades Cove" tells the story of the heritage herd of deer you may see there today, but primarily shows White-tailed deer in all 4 seasons, fawns and family life, diet, the rut and bucks sparring. Fantastic footage of wild deer set in the splendor of the Great Smokies! "Private Moments in Nature" is a very special up-close and personal nature video, with beautiful footage and music, taking us through the forests and swamps of the southeastern states. Shown are bears, raccoons, snails, lizards, birds and more.
